How do you get housing with bad credit?

4 mos. ago, I left an abusive relationship. My credit is very bad due to my divorce and last b/f. I am now living in a motel with my 13 year old daughter. I have a good job with more than enough money to pay for rent , but need someone to take a chance on me. Does anyone have any ideals for me?How do you get housing with bad credit?
This will probably take some time and a lot of work but if you can eventually get into an apartment in my opinion it would be worth it.

My Suggestions:

1) Be honest and open from the beginning. When you call on an apartment for rent explain that you have credit challenges and what happened.

2) You say you have a good job with mor ethan enough money to pay for rent. You may need to offer a larger than standard deposit.

3) It has been my experience that individuals are USUALLY more willing to work with you than companies.

4) You may need to be willing to rent something that is SAFE but not as nice as you would like for 6 months or a year. Look in the newpaper and find where some apartments are for rent then drive around the area to see what you can find.

You may want to steer clear of the aprtment for rent magazines as the rentals in there using rental agencies. But, ecept for time and gas, and mybe getting depressed, It's free to look as long as you are not paying for Credit Checks.

5) Check with HUD Approved Housing Counseling Agencies.

HUD sponsors housing counseling agencies throughout the country that can provide advice on buying a home, renting, defaults, foreclosures, credit issues, and reverse mortgages. This page allows you to select a list of agencies for each state.

What I would do is look at the local paper (recycler, pennysaver, any small magazine papers in the area, go to like a gas station or something and it will be there). And find (room for rent) and I suggest you rent a room first, until you get back on your feet. Usually they don't check credit because there not able to, even if they say they do... they usually can't, because they don't have the resources to. As long as you look decent and dependable, you should be fine. Also, most apartments will rent to people with bad credit, and all you have to do is explain the situation and pay like 2 month in deposits. I would check around and find the best option... God bless.
That's tough going. i kno what it's like when you feel a little cornered but persist because you will get credit. I used this site which has helped me a number of time now. It's in the source box below and should provide you with some free information. When you open the link, scroll down a little.

Hope this helps.
